The Treasurer has announced changes to Australia’s foreign investment review framework, effective from 10.30pm AEDT on Sunday 29 March 2020, relating to monetary thresholds and timeframes for reviewing applications. Details are available in our Guidance Note, updated on 18 May 2020, which addresses the effects of the changes. All material on this website should be read in light of the Treasurer’s announcement.

New FIRB Application Portal

The new Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) Application Portal (Portal) is now live.

All non-residential applications for foreign investment must now be lodged through the Portal. If an interim application was submitted between 28-30 June inclusive, applicants will now need to lodge their full application using the Portal.

Please note that accounts must be registered and activated before applicants can log-in to the Portal. A number of Quick Reference Guides have been developed and are available to help with registering accounts and completing routine tasks in the Portal.

To report any technical or performance issues, please contact FIRB Enquiries at: FIRBenquiries@treasury.gov.au or call on 61 2 6263 3795 between 9:00am‑12:30pm and 1:30‑5:00pm (AEST) Monday to Friday.
